Treatment of TMJ problems involve three things.
1. Orthopedic stabilization of the mandible with the use of two plastic orthotics. A lower one to be worn during the day, and an upper one to be worn at night. The right device must be chosen for the patient, as well as the right mandibular position. This can only be determined by dental and medical history and diagnostic imaging.
2. Therapies are prescribed to manage “trigger points” from which head neck and facial pain can originate. They may include injections and/or other diagnostic and treatment methods to reduce pain in joints, ligaments, and muscles.
3. Physical medicine modalities can be used to relieve pain, improve flexibility and range of motion and can be delivered right here in our office.
